MANILA -- Three buildings in Quezon City Hall are now solar-powered, the local government unit (LGU) said in a statement.

Quezon City said its city hall's main building is now fitted with 180 solar panels. The legislative building has 108, while around 290 are installed in the treasury building.

The LGU said it hoped to save P1.5 million yearly in electrical expenses by using solar energy for its seat of power.

According to City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the city wants to lower its energy consumption by using solar panels for buildings, hospitals, and schools.

The local government said some 1,000 solar panels will be installed this year across Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, Novaliches District Hospital, and Quezon City General Hospital.

“We assure the public that all infrastructure projects under Mayor Belmonte’s administration are top of the line in terms of quality and following the highest engineering standards,” City Engineer Atty. Dale Perra said.

Savings from solar power use can be tapped for the preservation and rehabilitation of day care and health care centers in the city, the LGU said.
