MANILA -- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the staggered payment of Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) purchases by power distributors.

The payments will be staggered for four months starting bills payable this June.

The ERC said this move aims to ease the burden of consumers of power distributors with high WESM exposure, especially as the Luzon and Visayas grids were placed under red and yellow alert during the dry season.
