Employees in the private sector who are required to work during a regular holiday must be paid double their usual rate, the Department of Labor and Employment said Monday.

"'Yung regular holiday pag ikaw ay pumasok kailangan bayaran ng 200% ng basic salary pero mayroong kundisyon, dapat ngayong araw na ito ay pumasok ka o kaya ikaw ay naka-leave with pay," Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview.

Under Labor Advisory No. 05, employees who work on a regular holiday shall be paid 200 percent of the employee’s wage for that day for the first 8 hours.

For work done in excess of 8 hours, the employers shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day, the advisory said.

For work done during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent.

Laguesma said labor contracts usually indicate that the employer will abide by labor standard provisions on holday pay, 13th month pay and overtime pay. "Maliban na lamang yung mga nagta-trabaho na nakasaad na ng eksakto yung halaga na dapat nilang tanggapin sa nakapaloob sa kanilang kontrata," he said.
