MANILA -- The South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) expansion project is about 70 percent complete, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) said Thursday.

In a statement, the conglomerate said they hope to complete the project by December, or just in time for the holiday season.

The project aims to widen the SLEX from three to four lanes to six on each side, in response to the increase in traffic volume because of economic and population growth.

SMC said the expanded expressway will make travel faster, safer, and more convenient for those who live south of Metro Manila, especially those who commute daily to and from the National Capital Region.

It will also help boost investments in Calabarzon, and can help decongest Metro Manila.

SMC president Ramon Ang asked for the public’s understanding on the temporary traffic slowdowns because of ongoing construction works along the expressway.

"The long-term benefits, including improved traffic conditions and regional economic support, will be substantial," he said.
