MANILA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue encouraged taxpayers to electronically file their Annual Income Tax Return since no extension will be given past the April 15 deadline.

BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. told ABS-CBN News that sufficient time has been given to file tax returns.

“As early as February, nagsimula na tayo ng tax campaign at marami na tayong na-setup na tax assistance centers,” Lumagui said.

(We already started our tax campaign and set up tax assistance centers.)

Lumagui added that BIR’s online facilities are available for use 24/7 so taxpayers to be able to file returns anytime and anywhere.

While manual filing can still be accommodated in Revenue District Offices (RDO), BIR encouraged the public to file electronically instead of waiting in queues.

“Napakainit ng panahon kaya sinisiguro natin na ang online facilities ay gumagana,” he added.

(The weather is so hot, so we are making sure our online facilities are working.)

More than 90 percent of filers have been utilizing BIR’s electronic facilities, according to Lumagui.

Due to the expected increase in usage of BIR’s online facilities, the bureau said it is ensuring that there will be no downtime in its services as the deadline approaches.

“Binabantayan natin ‘yan at doon sa mga nagbigay ng extra security para maging sigurado na gagana ‘yan at hindi magda-down ang system. Pagdating sa filing, alam naman natin na dadagsa ang gagamit ng online facilities. Ang information systems group, tututukan at babantayan ang any form of hacking,” Lumagui said.

(We are monitoring that space and putting extra security measures in place so the system won't go down. When it comes to filing, we know many will use online facilities. Our information systems group will watch for any form of hacking.)

Filers who might need assistance with electronic filing may seek assistance in e-Lounge facilities in Revenue District Offices.

For over-the-counter payments, BIR advised authorized agent banks to process payments even on Saturday as the deadline approaches.
