MANILA -- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is set to release its decision on the average distribution rate of Meralco anytime this week, newly-reinstated Chairperson Monalisa Dimalanta said Monday.

But Dimalanta said she was not aware of the supposed P16-billion refund that the utility would supposedly implement with the decision.

Dimalanta noted that before her suspension in August, the commission voted 3-2 ordering Meralco to forego the fifth regulatory reset and allowed the utility to maintain its current average rate of P1.35/kwh.

Dimalanta said she would check where former Officer-in-Charge Chairman Jesse Andres based his earlier pronouncement that Meralco was supposed to refund P16 billion.

NGCP RATE RESET

Dimalanta also confirmed that the commission had decided on the rate reset of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) before she was suspended.

In the preliminary decision, the NGCP reset rate is going up, as the commission allowed NGCP to include its unfinished projects among those which are charged to consumers.

Dimalanta said she would find out what revisions in the decision were made while she was suspended.

Dimalanta was suspended over a complaint filed against her by the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms Inc over her alleged inaction and "failure to resolve" various petitions and complaints.

She was reinstated to the agency in an October 30 memorandum.

STAGGERED PAYMENT FOR KRISTINE-HIT AREAS

Meanwhile, Meralco is implementing a staggered bill payment for customers who live in areas declared under the state of calamity due to severe tropical storm Kristine.

These include Quezon City and other local government units.

But this payment schem and the suspension of any disconnection are only open to those who consume 200 kwh or less every month.
