MANILA --The British Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (BCCP) is bullish about prospects for collaboration with Philippines on nuclear energy.

The United Kingdom had just signed a civil nuclear energy deal with the US at the COP29, while the Philippines just hosted a nuclear supply chain summit last week.

"I mean President (Ferdinand) Marcos (Jr.) has indicated that he sees potential in nuclear energy. And energy security and supply is critical. So yes, I could see UK companies being involved," said BCCP President Chris Nelson when asked if he sees collaboration between the two nations in terms of nuclear energy.

He stressed, however, that the UK is already collaborating with the Philippines in the renewable energy space.

"Let's not forget, the largest single investment this year into the Philippines is by Actus, a UK fund--$600 million that's into the Terra Solar Park," he said.

Going beyond the energy sector, Nelson said he also hopes for further growth in UK-Philippines trade relations.

"We look forward to further passage of key legislation...certainly on the Cyber Security Act, but on the governance we've seen progress in the (Anti-Agriculture Economic Sabotage) Act," he said.
