MANILA — Globe and PLDT on Thursday said they have started to deploy teams for repair as well as relief efforts in areas hit by severe tropical storm Kristine.

According to PLDT, their network services have remained "relatively stable," except in the Bicol region where commercial power outages are reported.

“PLDT and Smart are mobilizing relief supplies for our network and sales teams severely impacted in Bicol," said Cathy Yang, FVP & Group Head, Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

Smart also said it will suspend the redirection of accounts from October 24 to 27 to provide relief to customers in typhoon-hit areas.

Meanwhile, Globe said it has begun restoration work in parts of Visayas where commercial power failure caused network outages. As of 9 a.m. Thursday, Globe has progressed in restoring call, text and data services in some sites that experienced service disruptions. It added that less than 6 percent of Globe sites in the Visayas had experienced weather-related outages.

Meanwhile, Globe said restoration efforts will start in storm-hit provinces across Luzon "as soon as ground conditions permit."

“Our ground teams are doing their best to restore service in areas affected by Kristine despite remaining challenges. Storm-hit communities can rest assured that our services will be back up as soon as we hurdle obstacles on the ground,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

As a relief effort, Globe said it is ready to deploy Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging and Libreng WiFi stations to provide communications support in severely affected areas.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, Kristine was spotted over the coastal waters of Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 145 km/h, and central pressure of 985 hPa.

The weather disturbance is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Friday.
