MANILA -- Four government agencies want to build a 'giant' transportation hub bigger than the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) in Quezon City.

In a statement, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said it met with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the local government of Quezon City to discuss the project.

The transport hub will be built on the GSIS' 3-hectare lot at the corner of the Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue. The MMDA will conduct a feasibility study on both traffic management and basic engineering design of the project.

The DOTr will also help plan and manage the transport hub, as the World Bank is funding the project.

The Quezon City government, meanwhile, will approve permits needed by the project as quickly as possible for its speedy implementation.

GSIS President Wick Veloso said the transport hub is expected to be "a world-class intermodal transport hub that is a well-organized, modern facility that streamlines the bus travel experience, focusing on efficiency, passenger comfort, and seamless connectivity with other transport modes. "

The hub will enhance access to the nearby Philcoa Station of the MRT-7 when the new railway begins operating from the North Triangle Common Station in North Edsa to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.
