MANILA - Wage hikes in the Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley and SOCCSKSARGEN regions have been approved by their respective regional wage boards, the Department of Labor said on Wednesday.In Central Luzon, increases of P50 to P66 were approved, bringing the daily minimum wage rates in the region to a range of P500-P550 in the non-agriculture sector; P485-P520 in the agriculture sector; and P435-540 in retail and service establishments.In Cagayan Valley, a P30 daily minimum wage increase across all sectors was approved, bringing the daily minimum wages from P450 to P480 for the non-agriculture sector, and from P430 to P460.00 for the agriculture sector.Domestic workers or kasambahays in the Cagayan region will also P500 monthly increase in all cities and municipalities bringing the sector’s monthly minimum wage to P6,000, DOLE said.In SOCCSKSARGEN, increases of P27 to P48 were approved bringing the daily minimum wages in the region to P430 in the non-agriculture sector including retail and service establishments, and P410 in the agriculture sector upon implementation of all tranches.DOLE said the wage orders will take effect on Oct. 17 this year.Around 905,000 minimum wage earners in these regions are expected to benefit from the wage hikes. About 1.7 million full-time wage and salary workers earning above the minimum wage may also indirectly benefit as a result of upward adjustments at the enterprise level arising from the correction of wage distortion, DOLE said.Meanwhile, 49,165 domestic workers in the Cagayan Valley region are also expected to benefit from the wage hike.A P35 wage hike was earlier implemented in the National Capital Region last July, followed by a P21 to P75 wage hike for workers in the CALABARZON and Central Visayas regions.Labor groups criticized the wage increases as inadequate, as inflation had eaten away at the purchasing power of workers’ wages.
