MANILA — GCash’s scan-to-pay feature can now be used in more establishments abroad after the fintech giant partnered with Alipay+.

The collaboration extends GCash’s Scan-to-Pay feature to the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Thailand, and the UAE, bringing the total number of accessible markets to over 45, the Ayala-led fintech said.

This enables Filipinos traveling to China to use the Scan-to-Pay feature with no service fees and what the company said were favorable foreign exchange rates.

Alipay+ is accessible at over 80 million merchants in China, GCash said. Filipino tourists can also use GCash in Hong Kong’s iconic attractions such as Ocean Park and Ngong Ping 360.

In addition to Hong Kong, GCash’s cashless payment feature extends to Macao, UAE, and Thailand. Partner merchants include Sands Resorts Macao, Wynn Resorts, Dubai Mall, and Central Retail in Thailand, among others.

GCash said its users can simply look for the Alipay+ logo, open the GCash app, select QR or PayQR, and complete their transactions by scanning the merchant’s QR code or generating an Alipay+ QR code.

GCash recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, with its valuation expected to surpass even that of parent firm Globe Telecom.
