MANILA -- The Department of Transportation said Tuesday 2 companies secured original proponent status to develop international airports in the regions.

Chelsea Logistics Holdings of tycoon Dennis Uy will develop the Davao International Airport while Mega 7 Construction is the original proponent for the Kalibo International Airport, the department said in a statement.

The Civil Aviation Authority Board, headed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, is meeting with the 2 firms to complete requirements before their proposals are submitted to the National Economic Development Authority, according to the statement.

Chelsea submitted a P49 billion unsolicited proposal to operate, maintain and expand the Davao International Airport, the department said.

Mega 7, on the other hand, proposed to operate, maintain and upgrade Kalibo International Airport for P3.8 billion, it said.

The 2 terminals are among priority projects under President Rodrigo Duterte's P8 trillion "Build, Build, Build" list.
