MANILA - Cezar Consing leads Bank of the Philippine Islands taking inspiration from the company's chairman, who also steers one of the country's largest conglomerates, Ayala Corp.

Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Consing says, is both "forward-looking" and has a "firm view" on issues.

"He delegates well. He looks at the top line, the bottom line, and at the same time, worries about people," Consing tells ANC's "The Boss."

"He's got a vision for the future, so, I look at that and I say

that's the boss I want to work for," he says.

Consing describes himself as both an insider and an outsider at BPI, having worked with the bank in three different periods and juggling a stint with JP Morgan in Hong Kong in between. But he says he never thought he would become the boss at BPI.

Another boss he speaks fondly of is his wife, Maribel, for her involvement in charity work, such as feeding programs for poor children. While in Hong Kong, the Consing couple quietly supported distressed Filipino migrant workers.

"They're not really my advocacy. The advocacy is of my wife, Maribel. It would be too much to say it's my advocacy," he says.

"I'd like to think I bask in her reflected glory, so, I support those. My real advocacy right now is this bank. It doesn't leave room for much else," says.
