MANILA - Concessionaire Manila Water on Monday said it was still implementing rotational water interruption as the Angat Dam level remained below critical.

As of 6 a.m. of July 15, Angat Dam's water level was at 158.74 meters, below the critical level of 160 meters and "way below" the normal operating level of 180 meters, Manila Water's business operations support head Kristine Jessah Guevarra told ANC.

"That’s why Manila Water is constrained to implementing the water service interruption in an effort to distribute the limited supply equitably amongst our customers. Even with the rains coming in, the rains have helped in terms of keeping the depletion of Angat Dam at bay," Guevarra said.

"Unfortunately, we have to have the rains fall in the Angat Water shed and number 2, the volumes have to be sufficient enough for the dam to recover," she added.

The concessionaire has a deficit of about 350 to 400 million liters per day as a result of reduced supply mandated by the National Water Resources Board.

But augmentation efforts including deep wells and its Cardona plant, produce around 200 mld, which help narrow the gap by half, Guevarra said.

Maynilad also said it was cutting water supply. It has posted its water interruption schedules in its Facebook page.
