<figure class="op-interactive"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4Hm5_zqHRqM" width="560"></iframe></figure>MANILA - Ride-sharing combined with mass transport is key to untangling traffic jams in the Philippines and the rest of Southeast Asia, Uber said, as it pledged to maintain dialogues with regulators.The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board recently fined Uber and rival Grab P5 million each, citing violations of their permits.“We think the future of mass transportation is a shared ride mobility network where people use ride-sharing and products like Uber Pool and a combination of that with mass transit,” Uber general manager for Asia Pacific and Latin America Andrew Macdonald said.Southeast Asia accounts for 20 percent of Uber’s trips and is home to 25 percent of active drivers.“It’s an ongoing dialogue. This industry will evolve as time passes and as those things happen, we have to keep that dialogue open,” Uber Southeast Asia head Chan Park said, referring to regulatory issues.Macdonald said the departure of Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick would not affect the company’s Asian operations.“It’s obviously a big change for the company. Travis is going to remain a key presence on the board and will have inputs on big decisions. We’ll turn a page here,” Macdonald said.
