DAVAO CITY - AirAsia will suspend direct flights from Davao to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia starting next month due to "commercial reasons," the international carrier said in a statement sent to its clients.

“We regret to inform you that AirAsia will be suspending flights from Davao to Kuala Lumpur effective 21 August 2018 onwards due to commercial reasons,” the announcement read.

The cancellation of the route comes barely a year after AirAsia launched the direct flight between President Rodrigo Duterte's hometown and the Malaysian capital.

The local government said it has reached out to the airline to appeal the route's cancellation.
