Being a female leader in a male-dominated IT-BPO industry is special, but it can also be challenging at the same time.

And someone who experienced this first-hand is Ambe Tierro, senior managing director and technology lead of Accenture Philippines.

Tierro revealed having had to deal with being self-conscious, having walked into board meetings and global conferences attended by an overwhelming majority of men.

"But I should say, things have improved so much over the last few years. There's a lot of focus on diversity today. I think women can take advantage of that and stand out," she said.

And that's exactly what she is doing at Accenture. She believes that if one is competent and has something to say, one shouldn't have second thoughts on having their voices heard. But the diversity push is not women's task alone.

"It's not just about women only, but men and women working together and achieving that balance. And we cannot achieve gender equality without men. So, we try to involve the men as much as we can because they're also mentoring women," she said.

"So, it's going to be very inclusive and our dream is to be the most inclusive and diverse workplace in the world."
