Dealing with skincare concerns often feels like playing the stock market. As someone who had to contend with acne as a teenager—and what an ordeal it was—I completely understand how it feels to have low self-esteem, especially because I experienced it firsthand. When my skin finally started cleaning up, I developed a new sense of self-confidence, relieved that what was weighing me down was no longer there.

And then adult acne reared its ugly head.
And then adult acne reared its ugly head.
I don’t struggle with it as much as I used to, but breakouts still kick in due to factors such as stress, fluctuating hormone levels, and other lifestyle habits that we may or may not be aware of.

When the OG blogger—you’ll know what I mean if you’re around my age—and CKIN Collective founder, Camille Co-Koro, opened up about her long battle with adult-onset acne, I felt like I was listening to a friend who understood the struggle.

“Acne is more than just skin-deep,” shared Camille at the launch of CKIN. “It affected my relationships with others and with myself. The simplest things to do became so hard because I was stripped of my self-confidence and my self-esteem. I was overwhelmed and isolated, and I felt that others who have to deal with acne could be going through the same. This is why I started CKIN. I wanted to take that power away from acne, to remove the stigma surrounding acne, and to help others feel seen and guide them in understanding their own acne journey.”

When confronted with something that we cannot control, it is human instruct to act on emotion and search for a quick fix. Camille admitted to reacting the way most of us do in the face of a breakout: search and apply for acne-busting ingredients, not realizing that she was doing more harm than good to her already damaged skin barrier. The adverse effects led her to realize that she was going about it all wrong, and so she made the effort to set things right.

The end result? A simple three-step skincare routine—cleanse, tone, and moisturize—that gets things done without aggravating the skin further. Camille doesn’t believe in an 11-step regimen as based on her personal experience, simpler and gentler ingredients and processes work better. CKIN’s products are dermatologically-tested, non-comedogenic, fragrance- and cruelty-free, and free of harmful substances like oils, sulfates, and formaldehyde. There’s no bad stuff, there’s no fluff; just things that nourish the skin.

“We wanted to bring simplicity back to skincare,” said CKIN co-collaborator and international skincare expert Dr. Katarina Steventon. “We very much believe in general, thorough cleansing, which is followed by a toner with active ingredients and sealed with a very lightweight hydrator.”

A good line-up products, of course, is just part and parcel of every individual’s skincare journey. Dr Steventon said that we each have our own individual skin maps or compasses, and score differently on the six impact areas—our body and its pattern, diet and supplements, rest and recovery, pollutants and climate, skincare routine, and connection to self and others—depending on our respective lifestyles.

“CKIN is more than just a skincare brand—it’s a holistic approach to skincare and a #CKINship. It’s where people can find support, embrace the journey, and celebrate their progress,” Camille concluded.
