It's not everyday one gets to do the makeup of royalty. Let alone a beautiful bride about to wed the love of her life in front of the world. Such is the case for Filipino celebrity makeup artist Denise Ochoa, who got the privilege and pleasure of doing the makeup of Anisha Rosnah, now Princess Anisha, at the recent Brunei Royal Wedding. The beautiful lady got married to her longtime boyfriend, HRH Prince Mateen of Brunei.

Denise, known for being the go-to for local celebrities like Jane de Leon, Maja Salvador, Julia Barretto, and Angelica Panganiban, spoke with METRO about her recent whirlwind of an experience at the most-talked-about wedding this season.

'Being there for two weeks, I had to do her makeup a lot of times which were part of the whole wedding. All of them were very new to me and I think the 'whole 10 day event' was memorable', Denise shared. No stranger to high-profile events, Denise always brings her A-game to every makeup job she is hired to do. But she claims this was very different. 'I felt like it wasn't just a regular makeup job. Considering their status, there were too many aspects to consider. Most of which I didn't even think of, especially until we were getting close to the actual wedding.'

To get a better understanding of the incredible experience, we had to ask Denise all of our burning questions. Read on and get inspired by the real-life fairy tale experience of this makeup artist who's proudly our own!

Metro.Style: How did this makeup project come about? Have you known Anisha for a while now?

Denise Ochoa: I first did Anisha's makeup for her pre-wedding shoot last year right after they announced their engagement. Few weeks after that, they asked if I was available on some specified dates. Which was supposedly for their wedding.

MS: How would you describe working with her for her wedding?

DO: Generally, Anisha is the kind of client who isn't hard to deal with at all. She knows what she wants and always politely reminds me of her preferences. Most of which were makeup that would always give a natural effect. I just always kept those in mind, and then everything would go on smoothly.

What I just found quite challenging was getting familiarized with their traditions and ceremonies which I had zero knowledge of. I had to learn about it and their culture because I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything out of bounds, be it in the makeup look that I'd do, or if there were any strict rules to follow in the palace, or even the way we dressed (knowing they were a conservative country), and a lot more. Being an over-thinker really got the best of me. I just tried to make sure I presented myself the best way I could, work-wise and behavior-wise. I felt like it wasn't just a regular makeup job. Considering their status, there were too many aspects to consider. Most of which I didn't even think of, especially until we were getting close to the actual wedding. Aside from the traditions, I had to learn protocols in the palace, and in general when working with someone with that kind of status.

MS: What look did you go for?

DO: For her actual wedding, she mentioned that she wanted to keep the same look as her first powdering ceremony (the intimate one with the family) which was more on the natural side. She just asked for a very natural looking makeup, just something that would lightly enhance her features. My job was to try translating that look naturally on TV and in photos without making her look too made up nor too washed out. Anisha is hardly seen heavily made up, and we wanted to maintain that effortless classic look.

MS: Are there Filipino brands that you used for her look?

DO: Some of the local brands I used were Sunnies Face, Skinned, blk Cosmetics, Teviant, and Strokes Beauty Lab.

MS: What are your most memorable moments from this entire experience?

DO: Being there for two weeks, I had to do her makeup a lot of times which were part of the whole wedding. All of them were very new to me and I think 'the whole 10 day event' was memorable. But I think what I would not forget will be the gratefulness I have felt since day one. Grateful for the trust that I was given. Being given the task didn't just end in doing makeup alone. It was a big responsibility in so many ways and I couldn't be more thankful that they trusted I could deliver.
