Much has been said about being born poor, living poor and dying poor. We can never just wish all our troubles away, especially in a poverty-stricken place like the community in Quiapo where Mokang (Lovi Poe) and her family used to live. But there are moments when luck comes knocking, bringing a windfall of wealth that changes the plot of one’s life into an unbelievable rags-to-riches story.

They say that those who are born poor in Quiapo will die poor in Quiapo. But Marsing (Pen Medina) and Nita (Susan Africa) believed that poverty would not hinder their dream to see Mokang succeed, thus they strived to give her education through scholarship. They knew that Mokang’s diploma would be their only ticket to a better life. In turn, Mokang promised, "Gagawin ko ang lahat para yumaman tayo.”

However, they struggled in debt trying to provide Mokang with her wants, like the grand debut party of her dreams, forcing them to pawn their small house with the greedy landlord, Roda (Joel Lamangan). They went through humiliation, forced to accept Roda’s mockery and rudeness because they needed help.

Their life was further driven into a downward spiral after Mokang’s debut. She lost her scholarship due to a fight involving her classmates and childhood friend Tanggol (Coco Martin).

To make it even worse, Marsing failed to pay Roda, driving him to engage in illegal transactions to earn enough money so they wouldn’t have to evacuate their house. He resorted to dangerous modus where he would pretend to have been hit by a car and ask the driver for money for damages. Unfortunately, he was slammed by JP (Dino Imperial)’s vehicle for real, putting him in a state of comatose.

Mokang’s parents did some serious shopping, then went back to their old place introducing themselves as Don Marsing and Donya Nita to their friends and flaunting their wealth. “Parang hindi na tayo bagay dito sa Quiapo,” he told her as they paraded to their old house, with their former neighbors tailing them behind.
