Over the years, ABS-CBN has launched several reality talent searches that didn’t only showcase the world-class and amazing talents of Filipinos, but also exhibited our admirable and distinctive traits, such as perseverance, resilience, love for family, creativity, and even cheerfulness.

Among those remarkable reality contests that truly got us entertained was Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT), which is based on the iconic “Got Talent” franchise owned by British TV personality and executive producer Simon Cowell, who also serves as a judge in its incarnations in other countries. It aired its pilot episode in February 2010 and went on to run for six seasons till April 29, 2018.

It may have been five years already since its final episode was broadcast, but, for sure, we can still remember some of its contestants, whose incredible talents, memorable presence, and heartwarming stories are truly hard to forget. And now, we have the chance to revisit some of the unforgettable moments of the talent show through the PGT Rewind episodes uploaded in the Pilipinas Got Talent official YouTube channel.

And for the opening salvo, let’s look back on the audition of Joven Solvido, who amused us with his extraordinary vape tricks and comedic chops, which went viral online.

A tricycle driver from Sta. Cruz, Laguna, he immediately piqued the interests of the judges, who were comprised by Vice Ganda, Angel Locsin, former ABS-CBN president Freddie “FMG” Garcia, and Robin Padilla. Prior to showing off his real talent, he humored everyone first with his sense of humor, especially when he and Vice danced together onstage and had a “romantic” moment.

Everyone was surprised when he declared that his talent was vaping, which was totally new and unexpected. He spewed smoke nonstop and even used props in his vape tricks, much to the amusement of the judges and audiences alike.

His exhibition made Vice utter a hugot, saying, “Bakit gano’n? Kahit alam mong may mali sa’yo, ikaw pa rin ang gusto ko? Pero kahit alam mong mali, ipaglalaban mo pa rin hanggang sa unti-unting maging tama.” As Joven retorted that perhaps it’s his arrival that put joy in his life, Vice funnily remarked, “Mukhang ikaw din ang tatapos ng buhay ko kapag nanatili ka sa buhay ko.”

On the other hand, Angel wasn’t able to conceal her gigil, while FMG hinted that he would vote “NO” for him by having him spell it, yet Joven said “Y-E-S”.

Even though there was nothing really extraordinary about his talent, but Joven’s impressive sense of humor made it possible for him to break into the competition and eventually become one of the grand finalists of Season 6.
