Through the years, Filipinos have found the perfect platforms to showcase their exceptional stories and talents through ABS-CBN competitions such as Pilipinas Got Talent. In every season, the program would open the stage for the most noteworthy acts whether solo, duo, or group from all corners of the country. Those who would pass the first stage of auditions with the judges would advance to the semis until the crème de la crème of talents remains to battle it out in the grand finals.

But there are talents so extraordinary, combined with stories so remarkable, that they get sent straight to the finals via the coveted Golden Buzzer, which only the judges, and in some seasons the host as well, have the power to press for an act they feel particularly sensational. And most of the time, the Golden Buzzer becomes a tear-inducing, heart-pounding, and utterly life-changing moment for the contestants.

In this edition of PGT Rewind, we look back on two of the most phenomenal Golden Buzzer moments on Pilipinas Got Talent.

Our first featured act is Julius Obero from Season 6, a polio survivor who danced for his dreams while in a wheelchair. He and his partner Rhea Marquez touched the hearts of the judges with their inspirational dance routine, every move to the tune of “Somewhere In Time” laced with passion and a strong message that greatness can sprout even from the most unexpected people and places.

“Kahit may kapansanan ka, dala mo ang bandila natin,” commented Judge Robin Padilla, who turned emotional while giving Julius and Rhea a standing ovation. Even Judge Freddie M. Garcia, fondly addressed by everyone as FMG, was in awe of Julius’ brilliance. Judge Vice Ganda added, “Wala akong nakitang unconditional love, pero sa’yo, nakakita ako ng unconditional talent.” Judge Angel Locsin thanked the duo for their wonderful performance before pressing the Golden Buzzer.

Julius and Rhea were the 6th season’s runner-up.

The next act is Mark Basmayor from Season 5, who impressed the judges and audience with his jaw-dropping body contortion skills. “Sinong pangkaraniwang tao ang kayang magpalit-palit ng sumbrero nang hindi ginagamit ang daliri at iniipit lang sa alak-alakan ng kamay?” gushed Vice Ganda, who advised Mark to perform more so he could use his talent to earn money, aside from his side jobs in a construction site and as a ‘barker’ for his jeepney driver father.

Because of Mark’s incredibly captivating talent, loud cheers thundered all over the place, prompting FMG to grant him a Golden Buzzer ticket. But his luck didn’t end there as Vice Ganda, upon learning that he and his then-pregnant girlfriend want to get married before she gives birth to their first child, promised to pay for their wedding.

Julius and Mark are just two of PGT’s prime acts who reminded us that dreams are meant to be pursued, and that Pilipinas will never run out of Golden Buzzer-worthy talents.
