It is said that dreams don’t manifest overnight. In the case of Klarisse de Guzman, it took years and a lot of waiting and rejections before she managed to earn the glimmering success she has today, making “Her Time” a fitting title for her first major solo concert.

The former kontesera’s second-place finish in The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 helped her break through the mainstream music scene. Throughout her career, Klarisse has been guided by ‘fairy godmothers’ helping her with her dreams and goals – from Sarah Geronimo as her coach in The Voice PH to Vice Ganda, who will be producing her first major solo concert.

The Unkabogable Star has shown fondness and admiration toward Klarisse since welcoming her as a Tawag Ng Tanghalan hurado on It’s Showtime in July 2021. As seen in their banters, he finds her amusing and talented, so much so he casually mentioned in a July 2022 episode that he’s willing to produce her concert, saying her voice deserves to be heard.

Klarisse tells Kapamilya Chat that she thought the concert was just one of Vice’s usual punchlines, although she was touched by his sweet words of praises. “Siyempre na-overwhelmed ako at tuwang-tuwa ako bilang nanggaling nga sa isang Vice Ganda. Para sabihan ka niya ng such na nakaka-touch na words, parang, ‘Deserve ko na ‘yun?’ Akala ko no’ng una as a joke lang. Alam mo naman si Meme, maloko.”

Vice’s team immediately got in touch with her and that’s when she realized, “Oh my God! Totoo nga!”

Klarisse promises to entertain concertgoers with a new repertoire. She's hands-on choosing the line-up of her songs, making sure they are different from her usual performances and that she’s comfortable singing them. Fans can also expect a bit of impersonation as she did in Your Face Sounds Familiar, wherein she emerged as the grand winner in 2021.

The singer baptized as Soul Diva owns up to the jitters – the good kind that fuels her motivation. Looking back, she admits there was a time she almost gave up on her music, “Minsan may iniisip kang gano’n, na siguro hindi ako para dito or may ibang path na para sa akin. May mga phase na gano’n lalo na noong dumaan ‘yung pandemic. Industry natin ‘yung talagang naapektuhan tapos ang tagal ng break mapapaisip ka talaga sa mga bagay-bagay.” But it’s also during the pandemic when a new door opened via Your Face Sounds Familiar, followed by earning her spot as a TNT hurado.

Whenever she’s seated on the hurados’ chair, Klarisse finds herself reminiscing about her days as a kontesera and she feels blessed to be part of the contestants’ journey. Just as tenacity allowed her to shine in the music scene, she hopes other aspirants may also learn to be patient and determined.

“Maging handa lang. Kumbaga, marami kang pagdadaanan na rejections. Marami kang pagdadaanan na mga lubak. But still, maniwala ka lang sa talent mo. Huwag kang tumigil. Hangga’t alam mo na magaling ka, sumali ka lang. Kung may failures man, gawin mo lang siyang motivation,” she says, adding that you’ll never go wrong with singing from the heart.

The concert titled “Klarisse: Her Time” is set on November 18 at the New Frontier Theater. Tickets are now available via Ticketnet.
