Part of our DNA as Filipinos is the strong belief in swerte or luck. We can’t deny that in this day and age, we still emulate superstitious behavior like carrying lucky charms in our pockets or wallets, crossing our fingers to attract positive outcome, knocking on wood, and many more practices driven by our notions of fate and fortune.

What does luck or swerte truly mean? Is it even real? In this exclusive video, hosts of Kapamilya noontime show “It’s Your Lucky Day” share their thoughts.

Jennica Garcia’s version of luck is none other than the abundance that comes from the Man above, “Kung ano ‘yung nailalatag sa atin ng Panginoon araw-araw na pagkakataon para maayos natin ‘yung buhay natin, mapabuti natin.”

The same goes for Seth Fedelin, who says luck is believing that you are already lucky, “Ikaw gumagawa ng swerte mo, eh. Kasi kung nandiyan na ‘yung swerte pero hindi mo naman pinansin, sayang.” We rule our luck, and not the other way around, “Ang swerte, dumadaan lang ‘yan sa buhay natin na bihira lang kaya kailangan tayo maging wais sa desisyon.”

On the other hand, Francine Diaz sees luck as a supernatural force that exists in the universe, “It’s something na hindi mo hinihiling pero nakatadahana siyang mapunta sa’yo.”

So, is it real? Yes, according to Long Mejia, who believes that his family members are luck personified. He also assumes that the extra skin in his ear, which he jokingly calls ‘bluetooth,’ is his lucky charm.

Negi is convinced that luck can be harnessed. For instance, he puts bowls of salt and water in corners of his house as it is said to absorb negative energies. But to make it work, luck must be combined with sipag or hard work.

As Melai Cantiveros puts it, “Ang ibig sabihin ng pagiging maswerte sa akin, kapag sinamahan mo ‘yan ng sipag at tiyaga at dasal, talagang doon na didiretso ang swerte sa’yo.”

Luis Manzano perfectly defined luck as the sum of sweat and Divine providence, ”’Yung mga bagay na meron ka na pinaghihirapan mo rin at may kaunting ambon ng blessing ni God.”

Well, here’s the good news: Luis and the gang will make you believe in good luck! Catch loads of it in “It’s Your Lucky Day,” which airs Mondays to Saturdays, at noon, until October 27 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, GTV, and A2Z. It is also available on iWantTFC and TFC.
