“We we’re thirty plus. Pinaalis niya ‘yung 29, so ako na lang ‘yung natira. Kasi he scanned us all tapos ako na lang yung natira. Pagkapasok niya sa office, pinangiti niya ako, chineck niya ‘yung ngipin ko. Tapos biglaan tinawag niya si Tita Monch. Sabi niya kay Tita Monch, ‘Prepare a two-year contract.’ Akala ko trainee, ‘yun pala binigyan niya na ako ng contract mismong that day na.”

After almost 8 months of training, she was launched as part of the Star Magic 2018 roster of talents. She was cast in Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil’s teleserye “Make It With You.” As experienced by most artists, the pandemic brought Daniela uncertainties and made her jobless for almost two years until she bagged the lead role in the movie “Love at First Stream” directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.

However, at the height of her blossoming career came a controversy that resulted in public shaming, online harassment, and bashing. She was ‘canceled’ by social media. Daniela turned emotional owning up to her mistakes, “I said some mean words na, hindi naman, sana I should’ve kept it to myself. Kasi I feel like hindi siya appropriate to tell other people. Kasi ‘yung nasabi ko sa kanila is something I heard din, eh. Pero I don’t know why I had to bring it up din sa thread.”

She felt terrible about what happened and she’s fixing things until now, “Actually, now hindi ko alam paano haharap sa kanila. I don’t know where to begin. I don’t know how to apologize pero alam ko gustong-gusto ko po mag-sorry.”

It was the most devastating season in her life, yet she had to remain tough and professional since they were in the middle of filming, “Pero I stayed strong. Pupunta ako sa set nakangiti ako kasi that’s what we’re supposed to do as artista, eh. Separate your personal life from work, eh. That’s what I did. I felt like I have no one. Even yung co-actors ko, I felt like I was being left out. I had no one to talk to.”

“Hindi ko alam ano’ng nagyari sa akin no’n. I thought I messed up everything na. Hiyang-hiya po ako lumabas ng kwarto ko. Hiyang-hiya po ako lumabas at magpakita sa Nanay ko. Nagkukulong na lang ako sa kwarto ko nu’n,” she added. When the issue reached her family in Germany, Daniela felt she messed up all the sacrifices they made.

Slowly, she was able to redeem herself and learn from what happened. “For me, everything happens for a reason. People are going to judge you kahit hindi kanila kilala. Pero, you know, just keep thriving, just keep pushing. Just keep being yourself basta siguraduhin mong huwag kang makakatapak ng ibang tao.”

She is now determined to “make things right” and become a better version of herself, “Daniela is willing to change. Sana makita nila na sincere po ako sa mga ginagawa ko. I know there’s still going to be lots of hate pero, ako po, I’m going to try to do everything right this time. I’m going to make sure na whatever they’re saying, hindi totoo.”

In the ‘barkada’ series “Tara, G,” Daniela plays Cars, the misunderstood influencer sent to La Guerta because of a scandal in Manila. She comes off as spoiled and unsympathetic, thus an outcast, but deep inside has a malleable heart. The character’s struggle hits home, and therefore, Daniela delivers a realistic performance. Looking back on her experience filming in Benguet, Daniela said she appreciates the production team for making her feel comforted and seen.
