While its arguably easy to become a celebrity or a famous personality nowadays, we all know how it really takes much passion, talent, creativity, hard work, and guts to become one of the people behind the camera. 

As many of them opt to continue with their acting careers, several Kapamilya stars have taken the leap of faith and started calling the shots as a screenwriter, producer, and/or director when they were given the rare opportunities to study and eventually apply what they have learned in the projects they helmed! 

John Prats

We all know that John started off his career as a child star. He has appeared in a slew of movies and television shows that enabled him to exhibit his skills in acting and dancing. And now, alongside his appearance in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as Jerome Girona Jr., he has also amazed us when he tried his chops in directing. 

After sitting as director in several episodes of Tonight With Boy Abunda, he went to work on Gandang Gabi Vice and a number of concerts. In 2017, he directed the music video of Moira Dela Torre’s “Malaya”, which was produced by Bright Bulb Production, that start-up company he put up with friends-turned-business partners Sam Milby and Angelica Panganiban. 

John fulfilled one of his dreams when he was tapped to helm the ABS-CBN Christmas Special in 2020 and 2021. He also reached another milestones when he became a director for It’s Showtime.

Joross Gamboa 

Ever since he became one of the finalists of Star Circle Quest Season 1, Joross has indeed reached a lot of milestones throughout his career. 

In the recent years, he became part of two major teleseryes, La Luna Sangre (2018) and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (2019). However, one of his biggest achievements happened behind the camera through his debut as screenwriter and director for the iWant Originals movie “Allergy In Love,” which was a fulfillment of one of his greatest ambitions. 

Michael De Mesa

Having renowned performer Eddie Mesa and veteran actress Rosemarie Gil as parents, there’s no doubt that talent really runs in the blood of the Eigenmann clan, which includes actor-director Michael.  

Being in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano since 2016, his co-star and director Coco Martin gave him the wonderful opportunity to direct a few episodes of the long-running cop series last year – to which he was very much grateful of.

After years of exhibiting his acting prowess through the slew of successful movies and teleseryes he starred in, Coco has able to develop his interest and skills in behind-the-camera works for he is now also a director in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which has been running for over five years already. 

Besides, he also top-billed, directed, and produced the MMFF entries “Ang Panday” in 2017 and “3pol Trobol: Huli Ka Balbon” in 2019. 

These Kapamilya stars are inspiring not because of their fame, but because they continue to work hard and pursue their passion despite already reaching great levels of success in showbiz.
