In a sit-down interview with Bernadette Sembrano on “Tao Po,” the iconic love team Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto—better known as JoshLia—opened up about their much-anticipated return to the screen via “Un/Happy For You.”

JoshLia revealed that the storyline of their latest venture bears an uncanny resemblance to their real-life experiences. "Feeling ko ‘yung mga writers gumawa sila ng research about us na parang tinulad nila," Joshua remarked, referring to how his character, Juancho, is a chef—a profession that mirrors his journey in culinary studies. "So parang okay ginawa nilang chef ‘tong si Juancho," he added, highlighting how the script seemed to draw directly from his life.

Julia chimed in, explaining that the creative team behind the movie has been with them since the beginning of their love team journey. "At tsaka, because the writers and the people behind [“Un/happy for You”] are also the team that we’ve been working with for years since we were together and a love team, so they kinda also saw ‘yung naging journey namin," she shared.

This deep connection between the actors and the creative team has allowed the storyline to resonate on a more personal level, making their on-screen reunion even more special.

The chemistry between Joshua and Julia first sparked in the 2016 film “Vince and Kath and James,” a project that marked the beginning of their off-screen relationship as well. Their connection was undeniable, leading to memorable moments like the unforgettable promposal at the 2017 Star Magic Ball. The couple’s real-life romance blossomed, and they soon admitted to being a couple.

Bernadette then asked if balancing their relationship and work before was challenging. Joshua expressed that his deep affection for her and his passion for work made it effortless to manage both. Julia shared a similar perspective, emphasizing the abundance of blessings they experienced and the significant achievements they accomplished together during that period.

However, despite the joy they shared, their relationship came to an end, leaving their fans heartbroken. But as the saying goes, some love stories are meant to be revisited. The announcement of JoshLia’s on-screen comeback has sent waves of excitement through their fanbase, eager to see the magic they created together once again.

Bernadette couldn’t help but express her admiration for the strong connection they shared, to which Joshua humbly responded, "I think kasi grabe ‘yung pagka-komportable namin sa isa’t isa." He explained that even after their breakup, they maintained communication, though it waned during the pandemic. Now, reunited on the set of their latest project, the duo spends every day together, sharing stories and reigniting their bond. "Everything, as in," Julia said.

Their breakup five years ago, which was amicable and mature, laid the foundation for a smooth return to the screen. They both acknowledged that accepting this project was a sign they had moved on from their past. Joshua, especially, had no doubts about taking on the role, agreeing from the moment the project was pitched.

Despite leading separate lives, trust remains a cornerstone of their relationship. Julia expressed this sentiment, saying, "Iba na yung klase ng trust na mayroon ako for Josh. I trust him now, in a sense na alam kong yung friendship like he will fight for me kahit wala ako, or I’m not around."

Julia, ever supportive, urged Joshua to take care of himself and stay focused, adding, "Tawagan mo lang ako kapag may problema ka." Joshua, in turn, assured Julia that he’s always there for her, “kung kailangan mo ng kausap, nandito lang ako,kung kailangan mo ng mapaglalabasan ng problema at ng kung ano mang nararamdaman mo, na alam mo ‘yon nandito lang ako.”
