One hundred employees from Sourcefit, one of the leading, global business process outsourcing companies, decided to take a day away from their regular work to partake in a tree-planting initiative at the La Mesa Nature Reserve in Quezon City.

The Soilmate Project

Through its eco-friendly initiative called the "Soilmate Project," Sourcefit encouraged its employees to connect with nature by adopting a seedling and dedicating it to a loved one.

By embarking on tree-planting activities and actively partnering with environmental organizations, Sourcefit has been an eco-warrior in reducing its carbon footprint- a measure of how human activities impact climate change.

Planting trees is a key component in helping fight global warming as it helps reduce carbon footprint.

Reducing carbon footprint

Sourcefit is more than just a BPO – they strive to be invested, responsible global citizens, mandated to bring tangible, positive change to the communities they touch. As part of Sourcefit's carbon footprint reduction efforts, the company launched a tree-planting partnership with the Haribon Foundation in 2022 under the Soilmate Project.

This year, the company partnered with ABS-CBN Foundation Bantay Kalikasan to help green up the La Mesa Nature Reserve.

The La Mesa Watershed, known as the "green lung" of Metro Manila, is one of the last remaining forests in the city. It absorbs a substantial 3 - 5 percent of the carbon emissions produced by Metro Manila and provides drinking water for twelve million people.

Donate or Volunteer: Join the green movement

To play their part in helping the environment, Sourcefit employees had two avenues to participate in the eco-conscious initiative:

1. Adopt-a-seedling: By donating their resources, Sourcefit employees got the chance to be eco-heroes by adopting seedlings that they could dedicate to their loved ones. These seedlings will be nurtured and cared for by the La Mesa Nature Reserve until they grow into mature trees.

2. Plant-a-seedling: Sourcefit employees rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time to join their management committee in planting seedlings at the La Mesa Nature Reserve. This not only helped in restoring the environment, but also provided an opportunity to bond with colleagues while contributing to a meaningful cause.

800 seedlings planted

The half-day forest experience was mutually enriching for both mother nature and the volunteers. It started with volunteer orientation at La Mesa Nature Reserve, followed by a one-hour trek to the planting site. Volunteers had the chance to connect with nature, breathe in the fresh air, and immerse themselves in the lush surroundings while planting a total of eight hundred seedlings, including red and white Lawaan and Sandalwood varieties.

The result? A monthly carbon emissions reduction of eighty tons and 1.6 million liters of water mitigated to avoid flooding and soil erosion.

Sourcefit believes that meaningful CSR activities not only boost morale and foster teamwork, but also contribute to job satisfaction. The reforestation project not only provided employees with hands-on environmental experiences, but also instilled a sense of pride and purpose within the organization, reaffirming their commitment to making a positive impact on the communities they serve and the environments they live in.
