He showed me an image and lo and behold parang may grape-like image on the ultrasound. That's where it all started."

Andrea explained: "In layman's term, buhol-buhol ang bituka niya. They had to cut a big portion of it and she was left with a very short gut that's why she was also diagnosed with short gut syndrome."

The actress admitted that there was a time that she was blaming herself for what happened to her daughter.

"I asked myself, Lord ano ba to? Na-karma ba ako? Is this something that you are doing to punish me? So I had all these questions. I was blaming myself. As a mother you can't helped but blame yourself. Where did I go wrong?" she recalled.

As she grew in faith as a Christian, Andrea learned not to blame herself for her daughter's fate.

"I learned that karma is actually an ancient Indian idea wherein it's a consequence of your actions. But in Christianity, it's taught that your destiny is based on our belief in Jesus Christ and not ourselves," she highlighted.

Andrea shared that managing the condition of her daughter is a life-long challenge.

"Mahirap kasi hindi mo alam kung one day babalik ba 'to? Is this a recurring thing? For instance last January we had a major surgery again. They found something, 'yung nutrition niya kind of affected. Lifetime challenge," she said.

Amid the difficulties, the actress is proud of how her daughter has been facing her predicament with a mature mindset.

"It's hard but at the same time natutuwa ako dun sa sudden maturity niya because of 'yung mga pinagdadaanan niya. For instance, tinanong ko siya, 'Bea what did you learn from that surgery we had this January?' [She replied], 'You know mom, there was this bible verse that kept me going, Roman 8:18, 'The pain you are feeling is nothing compared to the joy that has yet to come,'" she recounted.

Andrea is thankful to her current partner, Anthony Garcia, for guiding Bea as well along the way.

"Bea's relationship kasi with Anthony is very special... We're very close with the daughter of Anthony as well. We're lucky because I'm happy that Bea has that male figure in her life. They're into sports. The family is an amazing family. They embraced us with open arms. I am happy that Bea grew up in that kind of environment," she stated.
