Award-winning stars Lea Salonga and Dolly de Leon reunited in New York earlier this month to officially begin their rehearsals for their highly-anticipated play, Request sa Radyo. Request sa Radyo is set to run from October 10 to 20 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.

The anticipated play is a local adaptation of Franz Xaver Kroetz’s landmark theatrical piece Wunschkonzert. The two award-winning stars will be alternately playing the protagonist as they bring to life the theatrical piece’s subtle yet powerful undercurrent.

It will revolve around the story of a woman who will showcase her meticulous evening routine to which the audience will witness how she navigates her quiet and solitary life. Her actions and her favorite radio program reveal the profound loneliness and yearning for connection that lies beneath.

“They are each giving extremely rich and layered performances. Even though they are performing the same show, how they approach it is so different that it almost feels like there are two completely different shows. It’s very exciting to work with both and help them shape the story in a way that’s honest to each of them,” the director shared.

He added that audiences can expect a lot from the show as they assure a unique performance coming from the two actresses.

“This show unpacks a lot in 70 minutes. We see the struggles of loneliness and isolation that our OFW workers go through. We see human struggle, which is what great theater has always shown us. We also get to see the theatrical form used in a very unique way,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Arts Theater will only have a seating capacity of 400 throughout the show’s run as revealed by Tony Award-winning creative visionary Clint Ramos. Fans can expect an immersive stage design which will give more meaning to the show’s story.
