SEVENTEEN member Jeonghan will start his mandatory military service this September. He is the first member of the K-Pop group to enlist in the military.

The K-Pop star's agency PLEDIS Entertainment, made the announcement on Weverse on Thursday, September 12.

"We wish to share the news of Jeonghan's upcoming enlistment into the military, scheduled for September 26, 2024," the agency wrote.

"As announced before he will not be able to take part in the promotional activities for SEVENTEEN's 12th mini album and the world tour. However, he will appear in various pre-recorded content."

PLEDIS also pointed out that there will be "no official event on the day of his enlistment."

"We kindly request that you refrain from visiting the site of his military service. Please send your heartfelt messages of support for Jeonghan through Weverse," the agency said.

PLEDIS also asked the fans for their "continued love and support for the artist."

"Kindly send your best wishes for his safe and healthy return. We will also stay committed to providing Jeonghan with all the necessary support during this time," the agency remarked.  

Fans online were quick to react to the news.

"Hannie-ah, take care of yourself. Drink lots of water and eat and always rests! 🫶🏻" one fan commented.

"Comeback safely‚ we will miss you Hanniehaee!" another fan wrote.

In South Korea, all able-bodied under 30 are required by law to complete mandatory military service.

Jeonghan made his debut in SEVENTEEN in May 2015 with the release of their first Extended Play 17 Carat.

In August, PLEDIS announced that the K-Pop group will release their 12th mini album in October.

SEVENTEEN will also kick off their Right Here World Tour that month. They will be bringing the tour in the US, Japan, and in various parts of Asia.

The K-Pop group previously stage their FOLLOW Tour in the Philippines last January in Bulacan.

In June, SEVENTEEN was appointed as UNESCO's first Goodwill Ambassador for Youth.

As ambassadors, SEVENTEEN will take part in UNESCO's awareness campaigns and events, promoting its values and initiatives through their performances.
