It was a heartwarming moment for Filipino two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his father, Mark Andrew Yulo, as the latter showed support for his son during his homecoming celebration with the other Filipino athletes.

During the parade for the Filipino athletes, Carlos’s father was spotted in the crowd of other Filipino supporters who were cheering for the athletes.

His father was seen jumping up and down and sending his heart sign to his son who was riding the float which was on Roxas Boulevard on their way to the final stop at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Mark also brought a banner telling the Filipino gold-medalist how happy he was about Carlos’s achievements.

“CALOY DITO PAPA MO!” was on the banner.

In the livestream video, it could be seen that Carlos gave a salute as he spotted the sign and his father in the crowd.

As reported in a post by ABS-CBN News, his maternal grandmother Angelita Poquiz also joined the crowd at the homecoming parade along Quirino Avenue. She was there with her sisters and other grandchildren.

In a previous interview with ABS-CBN News, Carlos’s uncle, Joma Poquiz, said they were planning to watch the parade and looked forward to seeing the athlete.

"Congratulations siyempre. Di natin alam [kung maririnig ako] sobrang daming magaantay sa kanya eh. Baka yung buong Quirino mapuno yan. Kasi halos lahat ng barangay dito naghihintay sa kanya," he remarked.

Last Tuesday night, August 13, the Filipino Olympians arrived in the Philippines via a chartered flight.

The athletes arrived at Villamor Air Base and headed to Malacañang for a Heroes' Welcome Ceremony.

The following day, Wednesday, August 14, a 7.7-kilometer homecoming parade was held starting from the Aliw Theatre in Pasay City to its last stop at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Athletes on board, headed by Carlos and bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, greeted fans and onlookers during the parade.

They also signed some memorabilia, t-shirts, posters, and items that the fans threw into their vehicle.

A small celebration program for the athletes was also held at the stadium.

“Napaka-overwhelm(ing) po. Super blessed po kami and thankful po sa suporta ng lahat ng Filipino po sa buong mundo,” Filipina boxer Aira said.

Another Filipina boxer, Nesthy, also made the whole crowd do the “eyy” trend before giving her message.

“Sa mga kabataan po na nage-aim na sundan yung yapak naming lahat na nandito po sa harapan ninyo, huwag niyo po pigilan yung sarili niyo. Huwag niyo pigilan abutin ang pangarap ninyo,” she added.

Caloy continued, “Proud na proud ako sa mga nakatayo dito (sa harapan)... Mas gagalingan po namin sa susunod na competitions and asahan niyo po na mas makakauha po tayo ng mas maraming medals po.”
