Esteemed Filipino Comic Strip creator and writer-director Carlo J. Caparas passed away at the age of 80. His family confirmed his death on Saturday night through a Facebook post by his daughter, Peach Caparas.

 

The family chose not to disclose the exact cause or date of Carlo J. Caparas’ death, but commemorated his life and legacy with a poem titled “Sa Bawat Tipa ng Makinilya.”

 

The poem highlights Caparas’ dedication to his craft and his significant contributions to Filipino Culture. 


“Isang mananalaysay ng kwento ng buhay, nilalabanan ang antok, nagsusunog ng kilay,” she wrote. “Sa larangan ng komiks siya ang naghari, naging bahagi ng kultura, naging yaman ng lahi.”

 

In the same post, Peach expressed her deep affection and gratitude for her father.


 “Dad, you will forever be loved, cherished, and honored…by all of us,” she added. 


In the comments section of the post, Peach mentioned that the wake would be held on May 27, from noon until midnight at the Golden Haven Memorial Chapels and Crematorium.

 

 

Carlo J. Caparas was a towering figure in the world of Filipino comics, best known for creating iconic superhero characters such as Panday, Totoy Bato, Elias Paniki, Bakekang, and Gagambino. These characters not only captivated readers but also made their way to television screens.

 

Notable adaptations include ABS-CBN's Panday (2005), Pieta (2008), and Dugong Buhay (2013), as well as GMA Network’s Bakekang (2006), Carlo J. Caparas’ Tasya Fantasya (2008), and Gagambino (2008).

 

Beyond the realm of comics, Caparas made significant contributions to Filipino cinema as a writer and director. His filmography includes popular titles like Hiwaga ng Panday, Ang Babaing Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang, Chavit, Tirad Pass: The Last Stand of Gen. Gregorio del Pilar, and Kamagong.

 

Carlo J. Caparas’ works have left an indelible mark on both the comic and film industries, shaping the narratives and imaginations of countless Filipinos.
