Singer and actor Guji Lorenzana is hoping to one day share the stage with his eldest daughter, Cassidy Lorenzana, now that they are both in the theater industry.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH at the grand opening and NexoHair launch last May 21, Guji shared that Cassidy is set to fly with the cast of Miss Saigon after the play’s successful Manila show.

“In a few weeks she will be going to Taiwan also. Part din siya ng touring cast ng Miss Saigon,” Guji revealed.

Guji also shared that he will be joining his daughter for the other international shows after his other ongoing projects.

“I will probably join but, of course, may ibang projects rin ako. I’m still finishing RENT, part din ako ng musical, so I’m still doing that until June 2. But ‘yung daughter ko will be going with my wife to Taiwan, and they will be there for a few weeks kasi I think four cities sila doon sa Taiwan,” he said.

In an interview last March, Guji shared how proud he was that his eldest daughter Cassidy was part of the cast for the Asian tour of Miss Saigon.

“We were just crying the whole time,” Guji said, recalling the first time he and his wife watched their child performing.

The theater actor also admitted that despite the challenge for his family, they really made a way to work around all the rehearsal schedules,

“So we’re both working hard, and we’re both supporting each other in this journey,” he said.

Guji revealed that his daughter had already shown an interest in performing as early as her toddler years.

“During the pandemic, siguro when she was one and a half years old, kumakanta na siya. She would stand on top of the couch, singing songs from Disney,” he reminisced. “And then when we saw the auditions for Tam on Miss Saigon, I asked my wife if we want to try. If she enjoys it, then let’s encourage that. Obviously, we want to encourage our kids if they show interest to help nurture their skills. So we went to the audition. She got accepted and very happy kami.”

Guji is currently part of 9Works Theatrical’s musical RENT, where he plays the part of Benny Coffin III for its Manila production. His daughter, Cassidy, played the part of Tam, the three-year-old Vietnamese-American son of Kim in Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of Miss Saigon.

Now that Cassidy is following in his footsteps in the theater world, Guji shared the advice he always gives his daughter when doing productions.

“I tell her to have fun, to always have fun. We don’t force her to do anything as long as she wants, and ever since na nag-join siya ng Miss Saigon, parang playtime for her yung pagiging onstage,” he said.

He added, “Hopefully in the future, kami ni Cassidy, we can be a part of one production, so praying for that.”
