Filipino influencers have been joining the Asoka makeup trend, showcasing their talent and creativity to their followers and viewers worldwide.

This trend was started by Sita Suwarnadwipa, an Indonesian bridal makeup artist. Her music of choice was from the 2001 Bollywood film, Asoka, and the song, “San Sanana” sung by lead actress in the film, Kareena Kapoor.

The trend was mostly inspired by the film and Kareena’s character, Kaurwaki.

The Asoka makeup trend or the Indian Bridal makeup trend sheds light on the difference between a Western bridal look and the South Asian bridal look. Indian bridal makeup and attire is very colorful and is rich in symbolism and culture. One big factor of the makeup trend is the use of accessories and bold-colored outfits.

Since its creation, the Asoka makeup trend has gained popularity on TikTok, with numerous users creating their own interpretations of iconic bridal makeup looks. The videos under the original sound has over 306.2k plays, noting its appeal across the platform.

There are two variations of the trend that makeup artists can explore. The first is recreating Kareena Kapoor’s look and outfit from the film, paying homage to the character and cultural significance of the song.

Another variation is just using transitions with a big reveal of a bridal makeup look at the end.

Here are some of the Filipino influencers who participated in the Asoka makeup trend:

Lenie Aycardo (lenie_aycardo)

Lenie created two variations for this trend: one where she recreated the bridal look and another copying Kareena’s look in the film Asoka.
