1. Wonka
Make your summer break sweet with the charming musical film Wonka. Starring Timothée Chalamet, Wonka features the 1964 iconic and classic story of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and his whimsical chocolate factory. The movie came out last December in Philippine cinemas, and is now available for streaming on HBO Go via PLDT Home. The film was directed by Paul King, who was also the writer/director of the Paddington films. It also stars Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, and Hugh Grant.

Having premiered in the movie theaters last November, Wish is set to be available on the streaming platform Disney+ starting April 3. This musical film features the journey of Asha (voiced by Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose) as she tries to save the kingdom of Rosas from its ruler, King Magnifico (voiced by Hollywood actor Chris Pine).

Remember those good ol’ summer days when afternoon shows were telenovelas? If you’re feeling nostalgic for something like that again, here’s the Mexican telenovela titled Senorita 89. However, this isn’t a telenovela like you’ve seen before. This dark thrilling drama series revolves around a pageant with its backdrop set in the ‘90s. The first season aired last December while the second season started last March 15 on the Lionsgate Play streaming app.

An action-packed period piece based on a masterpiece by American novelist James Clavell, FX’s Shōgun is a mini-series set during the civil war in Japan in the 1600s, tackling political and religious conversations. It stars veteran actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who has appeared in international films. In fact, he was also in the 1995 Filipino film Sigaw ng Puso starring Lorna Tolentino and Sharmaine Arnaiz. This adaptation is available on Disney+.
