TJ Monterde shared the story behind his hit song "Palagi," which now has 34 million streams on Spotify.

"It's really special kasi this song, this is one of the first few releases after na wala na akong record label, independent na ako ngayon. Isa ito sa mga sinulat ko," TJ relayed in an interview in On Cue with MJ Felipe.

TJ said that he wrote the track without putting pressure on himself to produce a hit song.

"There just came a point na sabi ko Lord magsusulat lang ako, walang pressure at all. I'm just gonna write because I write. That's it. Wala akong magiging barometer na malalagpasan kaya niya 'yung ibang songs ko dati? Binitawan ko na parang ayaw ko na ng pressure that I'm just gonna write," he remarked.

TJ revealed that "Palagi" is a song he wrote for his wife KZ Tandingan saying: "This song is a song of reassurance for KZ."

The singer relayed that it was at a surprise garden dinner he prepared when he first sang the song to KZ.

"It was a dinner for two, sobrang nagulat siya, garden dinner siya. It was May 29, 2023. It was last year... [I told her] 'May 29, 2013, exactly 10 years ago was the day I met you.' That was the story of the song," he stated.

He continued: 'We had dinner and I sang this song for the first time. [I told her], 'We're ten years na magkakilala but still I want to reassure you na kahit anong mangyari, kapag napaligiran ng ingay at gulo di ko ipagpapalit 'yung ngiti mo sa mundo, palagi ."

TJ relayed that KZ became emotional when she first heard the song.

"That's the first time na narinig niya 'yung song and naiyak din siya and I really put my heart into this song. This is the non-negotiable na 'Palagi' is gonna be in the concert," he said.

TJ is set to stage a concert titled "Sariling Mundo TJ Monterde" at the New Frontier Theater on May 5 and 6.
