Disney is bringing back Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps after eight years, as they announced the sequel to the animated action-comedy film Zootopia on November 26, 2025.

Following Walt Disney Animation Studios' tradition to release new films around Thanksgiving, Chief Executive Bob Iger revealed the release date of the much-anticipated film during Disney’s Q1 2024 earnings call on Thursday, February 8 (Philippine Time).

Alongside the sequel to the global hit animated film, CEO Bob also announced that Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3 are set to premiere in 2026.

“Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Frozen and Zootopia,” the CEO said.

He added: “We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”

Full details about the second installment of Zootopia have not been revealed. However, Disney later confirmed that the original screenwriter Jared Bush will return for the sequel.

Zootopia became a global hit when it was first released, grossing more than $1 billion US dollars (over ₱55 billion), making it the fourth-highest grossing film in 2016.

The film also bagged the Best Animated Film award at the 89th Academy Awards and was named one of the top ten best films of 2016 by the American Film Institute.

Zootopia follows the story of Judy Hopps, a young bunny who dreams of becoming a police officer in the big city. But after a disappointing first day at work, she runs into Nick Wilde, a fox who dedicates his life to tricking others to his advantage. While the characters don't get along at first, they're forced to work together when predators go out of control. 

Directed by Byron Howard (of Encanto) and Rich Moore (of Ralph Breaks the Internet), the animated film starred Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Shakira, J.K. Simmons, Rich Moore, Idris Elba, Octavia Spencer, and Alan Tudyk.

Disney also released a series of shorts dubbed as Zootopia+ on Disney Plus in 2022.

The shorts starred secondary characters from the 2016 animated film.

Aside from Zootopia, Frozen, and Toy Story sequels, Disney also dropped a teaser video and looks for Moana 2to be released on November 27 this year.

“Here’s your first look at #Moana2, only in theaters this November,” Disney wrote in their Instagram post.

Last April 2023, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that he is set to produce the live-action remake of the animated musical fantasy adventure film.

"Humbled to say we’re bringing #MOANA’s beautiful story to the live action big screen! #MAUI changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honored to partner with  @DisneyStudios to tell our story thru the realm of music & dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people🪝," Dwayne posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page.
