After receiving her citizenship in 2022 after residing in the US for more than a decade, BB Gandanghari (formerly known as actor Rustom Padilla), shared that she is happy being enrolled as a student at the Los Angeles Film School in California where she is getting a second degree. In her Instagram post last February 6, the 56-year-old shared her recent achievement after being named Student of the Month in school.

In her post, BB wrote, “#StudentOfTheMonth: being so takes a lot of perseverance, tenacity and prayers 🙏🎥. School deadlines would often times be overwhelming information that would require sleepless nights to finish a project. It needs a lot of hard work and discipline to meet these deadlines and making it to class prepared and on time. High grades besides an obvious indication of excellence, is actually a motivation to strive even harder to create a better future through formal education. 💻🇺🇸 Thank you the Los Angeles Film School for this motivation as much as it is a challenge to carry on‼️🎬” Education is the mother of Leadership ‼️❣️We have to know WHAT we are even before we know WHO we are. Dream to become… 💕🎬

BB first started posting about her film school experience last November, where she went live on Instagram during the Los Angeles Film School Cultural Community Day and she interviewed some of her schoolmates. She wrote, “#bitsAndPieces: getting to know my community 🎥, When moving forward mean going back to basics…. The great irony of life❣️💯

In one video post, BB explained that students are identified through the color of the ID tags they wear and her blue tag identified her as an Entertainment Business student.

BB also commented on how she felt more senior in age to the rest of her schoolmates. “So this is one good thing sa school, na parang may mga bagong mga nakikilala, new communities, young people (laughs). Ako yung pinkaamatanda dito. Lahat ng mga nandito, everyone is like in the millennial and Gen Z demographic. Parang ako lang ata dito yung mag-isa na nasa Gen X (laughs)

BB first came out as a member of the LGBTQIA community during his stint as a celebrity housemate on Pinoy Big Brother in 2006. He came out as a transgender in 2009 and after moving to the US, requested to have a Los Angeles court legally recognize her gender as female and officially had her name officially changed from Rustom Padilla to Binibini Gandanghari with her request granted in November in 2016.

She started undergoing hormone replacement therapy in 2019 as part of her transition to becoming a woman. After moving abroad, BB was reported to be working as a bookkeeper and accountant. She reunited with her mother Eva Cariño in 2022 after seven years abroad. BB finally got to spend more bonding time with the Padilla matriarch during their recent family trip to Las Vegas last month.
