"So nice to be back home."

These were the words of Filipino-Canadian actor Gordon Cormier as he returned to the Philippines to promote the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

"It has been amazing. I'm back in my homeland... I haven't been here in a while because of COVID, so it's really nice,” he said at a press conference as reported by PhilSTAR Life.

The young star also expressed his elation meeting his loved ones in the country saying, "I got to see my family. It's incredible."

Gordon plays the main lead character Aang in the series.

According to the actor, his friendship with his co-stars offscreen became instrumental in portraying the bond of his character with the other characters in the show really well.

"You can see our relationships grow throughout this series, because Aang doesn't know these characters yet, but you can tell the second we meet, we do actually know that we're family, and that's kind of happened in real life too, so you can see it develop," he shared.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Gud Morning Kapatid, Gordon shared his experience visiting the Philippines so far.

"It is very warm compared to Canada when I'm used to negative 20. It's really nice...  It's crazy people here speak better English than I do. So it is more than impressive," he relayed.

Gordon was born to a Filipino mother and a Canadian father. When asked if his mom taught him any Tagalog words, he shared: "When I was really young she actually tried to teach me... The first word she actually told me was pogi."

The actor also recalled his audition process for the Netflix series saying: "For me it was a very long audition process. It consisted of self-taped, then two call backs, then three chemistry reads."

Avatar: The Last Airbender started streaming on Netflix on February 22.

According to Netflix, the series will follow the story of the four nations of the world that once "lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world."
