Sam Milby opened up how he is managing his type 2 diabetes.

In a recent interview with the media at his contract signing with ABS-CBN, the actor admitted that the health condition was something he did not anticipate.

"It's interesting because lahat ng kaibigan ko alam nila na ako 'yung pinaka-healthy sa kanila. I'm a carb counter so ako 'yung iniiwasan 'yung mga pasta, pizza... tapos ako pa 'yung nagka-diabetes," he said.

On how he is managing his type 2 diabetes, he relayed, "It's something that I'm living with, and I have just be more nagi-ingat sa kinakain."

Sam has been raising awareness about diabetes since being diagnosed to encourage people to get their blood sugar checked if they are manifesting symptoms.

"Ang naging problema ko I think kasi marami akong signs, marami akong sintomas na hindi ko pinapansin. Akala ko parang ah 'yung mga sintomas na ito dahil tumatanda ako - wala akong energy, ayaw kong gumalaw - akala ko dahil tumatanda ako. 'Yun pala it was because mataas 'yung blood sugar ko and I didn't get checked," he said.

Sam recalled the symptoms he experienced included urinating frequently and always getting thirsty.

"If I would have gone and got checked before na ma may mga sintomas na ako I could have pre-diabetes and I could reversed it," he shared. "If you are pre-diabetic just get checked. If you have any symptoms just get check your blood sugar."

It was in June when Sam revealed that he has type 2 diabetes.

"I've always thought of myself as a healthy person. I don't have a sweet tooth, bihira din mag junk food, pero last year I found out na may type 2 diabetes na ako. My parents and grandparents never had it. I just wish I got checked up earlier nung pre-diabetes pa," he revealed in an Instagram post he shared back in June.

"My advice - don't ignore the symptoms (my main symptoms - always thirsty and urinating often) and get checked up regularly," he said.
