Orphan has been confirmed to have a third installment.

According to the report of Variety, Isabelle Fuhrman is set to reprise her role as Esther in the upcoming film.

Director William Brent Bell and screenwriter David Coggeshall of Orphan: First Kill will also return for the project.

Producer Dark Castle Entertainment co-CEO Norman Golightly released a statement following the announcement.

"Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the ‘Orphan’ saga. With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike," he remarked.

The first Orphan film was released in 2009. It achieved grossed $78.8 million at the global box office.

The movie follows the story of Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard) who are grieving the heartbreaking loss of their unborn child and decide to open their hearts to adoption. At the orphanage, they feel an immediate connection with a young girl named Esther and soon welcome her into their family. However, as unsettling incidents begin to occur, Kate starts to suspect that beneath Esther’s innocent appearance lies something far more sinister.

Meanwhile, the second installment of the film titled Orphan: First Kill was released in 2022. It was a prequel to Orphan

The story follows Esther as she masterminds a daring escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility and travels to America, assuming the identity of a wealthy family's missing daughter. However, an unforeseen twist sets her against a fiercely protective mother willing to do whatever it takes to defend her family from the deadly "child."

The movie earned $44 million in the global box office.

In a previous interview with Variety in 2022, lead star Isabelle was vocal about doing a third movie if it would be produced.

"If the script is good, and people love this one, why not? I would love to do that," she replied.

The actress added: "I don’t think we’re going to have to wait 13 years because I don’t think it’s going to be possible in 13 years. When you’re in your 20s you can still look like younger if you get on a little stool chair, or have children play you from multiple angles. But I would love the opportunity if it came up. I wouldn’t say no."
