South Africa representative Mia Le Roux has announced her withdrawal from the Miss Universe pageant.

The beauty queen cited health concerns as the reason of the said decision.

The Miss South Africa Organization made the announcement on their social media page on Friday, November 15.

"It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe competition due to health concerns," the organization said in a statement.

Mia remarked that she is "profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa" during her time at Miss Universe.



"Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me. However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength," the beauty queen said.

The Miss South Africa Organization stated that Mia's health is their topmost priority. "Mia has shown incredible courage and grace throughout this difficult period. Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health. Our hearts are with her as she takes the necessary steps toward recovery," the organization highlighted.



Fellow beauty queens and fans online were quick to express their well-wishes for Mia.

Former Miss Universe and former Miss Universe South Africa Demi-Leigh Tebow commented: "Get well beautiful Mia, prayers for a speedy recovery 🩵."

"Health first, speedy recovery Mia," another fan said.

The 73rd Miss Universe preliminary and national costume competition happened on November 14 at the Arena CDMX in Mexico.

Then the coronation night will happen on November 16 at the same venue.

Miss Universe recently unveiled the new crown of the pageant which was made in the Philippines.

Filipino luxury brand Jewelmer created the Miss Universe crown which was dubbed as the "Light of Infinity" crown.

"Caressed by the sun’s rays, the sea generously offers us a magical gift — the rare golden South Sea pearl, the National Gem of the Philippines," the brand posted on social media.

The crown is described as "a miracle created in 377 steps over five years" and a "treasure [that] is brought to life by the most pristine environment and utmost human care."
