The film is a Filipino adaptation of the South Korean box office hit Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which was based on an actual psychiatric hospital located in Gwangju-si. The 2018 South korean film was a commercial hit as it earned $21 million in box office takings.

This marks as the comeback film of Enrique at the MMFF after more than a decade–– his last film that made it was back in 2012 with The Strangers. Being a huge fan of the horror genre, the Kapamilya star expressed his eagerness to star in the film.

“For how many years, I haven’t been doing any MMFF movies and projects. But this year, I couldn’t say no–– it was too good to pass on and too exciting,” he shared.

Apart from being a cast member of the upcoming film, Enrique will be a co-producer alongside renowned director and “Master of Horror” Erik Matti with veteran filmmaker Dondon Monteverde. This is the second film that he produced with the first being his comeback film earlier this year, I Am Not Big Bird.

When asked if there was any pressure on their end as this is a local adaptation, he admitted there were some but it wouldn’t be an hindrance on giving it the Filipino flavor of horror and thrill.

Strange Frequencies is dubbed as the country’s first-ever meta found footage horror film that will surely get the audience wanting for more. The film is set to screen in cinemas nationwide starting this December 25.
