Regal Entertainment’s horror anthology film series, Shake, Rattle, & Roll, is a local favorite that has been part of everyone’s childhood memories. With its 16th installment released last year, the movie franchise ensures that all generations can still experience the suspense and horror it has been delivering since 1984.

Here are a few iconic episodes from Shake, Rattle & Roll that you’ll want to watch:

LRT

Besides the horror of traffic and commuting in the Philippines, the Shake, Rattle & Roll 2006 episode titled LRT is one of the most popular ones in recent years, thanks to its relatable storyline.

Starring Manilyn Reynes and Keempee De Leon, this episode tells the story of 13 passengers on the last trip of a train who are being chased by a monster.

As the surviving passengers try to report the murderous events to the police, they discover that the creature is actually related to the head of the police. They also learn that monster was deliberately led to the train.

Aswang

From the second installment in 1990 comes Aswang.

Starring Manilyn Reynes, Ana Roces, Aljon Jimenez, Anjo Yllana, Richard Gomez, Vangie Labalan, and Rez Cortez, the story follows a student named Portia (Manilyn) who is invited by her best friend Monica (Ana) to celebrate the fiesta in her village. Unaware of the darkness lurking in the village, Portia spends time there but soon becomes suspicious of their lifestyle, questioning whether the rumors about the villagers being aswang are true.

In a post on the social media platform X, netizens recalled scenarios where they felt paranoid whenever they traveled to remote areas and became too suspicious of the people they met or invite them to fiestas.

Class Picture

In the 10th edition of Shake, Rattle, & Roll, Kim Chius stars in the episode Class Picture.

Joy (Kim) and her college friends are graduating students of San Selino who spend their weekend on campus preparing for an exhibit. This is in exchange for lifting their organization's suspension and obtaining their clearance for graduation.

On their first night, one of their friends disappears without a trace. Joy then reveals a mysterious class picture, which appears to be cursed. Whoever looks at the photo of the nun sitting in the middle will vanish. As they try to uncover the story behind the photo, the group discovers a dark secret about the school involving an evil nun who haunts their campus.

The storyline resonates with many Filipinos, as some universities in the Philippines were run by nuns during Spanish colonization. Urban legends about the souls of deceased faculty or students haunting old schools are also prominent.

Punerarya

Another fan favorite is the Shake, Rattle, & Roll episode Punerarya, featuring Carla Abellana, Sid Lucero, and Nash Aguas, released in 2012.

Carla plays the role of Dianne, who works as a part-time tutor for the Gonzales family. The family, who owns a funeral parlor, is rumored to be a group of aswang. Dianne discovers their photophobic nature, their desire to eat entrails, and their unusual activities in and out of the parlor. As she continues to work for the family, Dianne uncovers their dark secret and what they have done to her brother.
