Angelica Panganiban underwent a hip replacement surgery to address her avascular necrosis.

As per Mayo Clinic, avascular necrosis is "the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. Also called osteonecrosis, it can lead to tiny breaks in the bone and cause the bone to collapse."

In her latest YouTube vlog, the actress shared what led her to the decision of undergoing the hip replacement surgery. It can be recalled that Angelica previously had a hip cord decompression surgery for her bone disease, but the actress shared that it did not address her condition.  

"Nagpa-cord decompression na ako on both hips pero hindi siya nakatulong sa akin especially on my left hip. Pinadali niya ang pag-collapse ng aking kaliwang balakang, mas naging brittle 'yung hips ko and for two months, pinag-bedrest lang ako," she relayed.

Angelica underwent the hip replacement surgery in Manila. "Babalik kami tonight sa St. Lukes para magpa-hip replacement surgery on my left side. We are hoping na paglabas ko dito ay mas maganda na 'yung recovery na mangyari sa akin," she said.  

The actress shared that she was initially planning to do the surgery in Thailand. "Ayon sa research magaling daw silang gumawa ng replacement surgeries in Thailand. Kaya lang nung nag-research din kami, maiipit kami ng isang buwan abroad dahil mahihirapan akong lumipad pabalik dahil sa air pressure ng eroplano at magkakaroon ng mga kumbaga mas prone ako sa blood clot, na 'yun ang delikadong mangyari sa akin."

"At hindi po kakayanin ng budget at ng oras natin na maiwan sa ibang bansa kasi paano naman 'tong little love (pertaining to her daughter) ko. Hindi ko kayang iwan ng matagal si little love," she added.

She went on: "Siyempre hindi rin naman tayo nagpapahuli dito sa Pilipinas lalo na kapag ginawa mo ang research mo, kumbaga world class rin naman ang kayang i-offer... So kahit na mapapagastos pero siyempre kalusugan mo, health mo, extension ng quality of life mo 'yung nakataya dito, kailangan mong ibigay 'yun sa sarili mo."

On the day of her hip replacement surgery, Angelica underwent the major operation for two hours. Following the surgery, the actress started her physical therapy.

In the vlog, Angelica showed clips of her able to successfully walk during her physical therapy sessions post-operation.

By the end of the vlog, Angelica expressed her relief as the results of the surgery turned out successful.

"Natapos na ang aking kalbaryo, sa hirap ko sa aking avascular necrosis journey... Within five hours after surgery nakapaglakad ako. Until now, lakad ako nang lakad, tayo, upo, nakakapagbanyo na ako mag-isa. So hindi totoo na mahihirapan ako, of course magkakaroon ng changes sa buhay ko like mga high impact sports hindi ko na 'yun magawawa [pero] hindi rin naman ako athlete," she stated.

"Ang gusto ko lang naman ay makapaglakad at mawala 'yung chronic pain ko... So finally ito na nga dumating na kami sa point [na] okay na, nasolusyunan na, na-hip replacement na ako," she remarked.

Angelica's fans online extended their well-wishes for the actress.

"Nakakaiyak manood sa jouney mo. As a mother lumalaban ka para sa pamilya mo at sa sarili mo. God bless you and praying for your complete healing and fast recovery in Jesus name," one fan commented.

"As someone na nasa medical field, good job Angelica for doing the surgery as early as possible habang bata ka pa at kaya mo. Mas mabilis kasi recovery 'pag bata di ba kaya congratulations. Laban lang and road to recovery ka na," another fan said.
