"I'm absolutely devastated about the passing of my amazing friend."

These were the words of Niall Horan as he penned a message on social media following the passing of his fellow One Direction member Liam Payne. "It just doesn't feel real," he remarked.

Niall described Liam as someone who "had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious."

The singer went on: "He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and secure."

Niall said that he will forever cherish the memories and the bond they had together.

"All the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness," he said.

"We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn't happen often in a lifetime," he added.

The "This Town" singer said that he felt fortunate that he was able to see Liam recently. Liam attended his concert in Argentina.

"I sadly didn't know that after saying goodbye and hugging him, I would be saying goodbye forever. It's heartbreaking," he stated.

He then extended his condolences to the family of the late One Direction member.

"Thank you for everything, Payno. Love your brother, Nialler," he wrote.

The One Direction members also released a joint statement following the death of Liam.

"We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing," they wrote. "The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever."

"Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam," they said.

As per the Associated Press, local authorities reported that the singer died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 16.

Liam sustained "extremely serious injuries" after falling from the third floor of Casa Sur Hotel as per the Buenos Aires police. His death was confirmed by the Medics at the scene.
