Singer-songwriter Yeng Constantino expressed how happy she is after finally fully owning her songs after 17 years in the music industry.

The Kapamilya singer shared with the media last August 25 the story as to how she acquired her catalog from her former record label, Star Music.

Yeng parted ways with Star Music after being with them for almost two decades and has signed with Republic Records Philippines.

The singer-songwriter shared that she is thankful that her former label understood where she was coming from, particularly why she wanted to own her songs. She revealed that she wants to use this opportunity to earn passive income when she retires in the future.

“17 years na ako sa industry and hindi naman tayo bumabata so parang as I’m getting older ––I think I’ve been like this simula pa naman nung umpisa––I always think about the future. Itong trabaho namin it’s not forever and what do I have to do in the present para masecure ko ang akin retirement pag tanda," she shared.

"Isa lang to sa mga steps na ginagawa ko para mas ma secure 'yung future ko. Eventually I think 'yung songs are an investment as well,” she added.

The 34-year-old OPM superstar added that she felt that her songs had served their purpose already and it was time for them to come home to her. Yeng mentioned that she had no bad blood with Star Music, pointing out that she didn’t want to burn the bridge between them.

“I’m so lucky kasi hindi siya naging war, walang ganun na nangyari… Ako mismo personally, pumunta pa ako ng Star Music. Naiyak pa nga ako kasi syempre laking hiya ko. Ayoko po mag come off as ungrateful, ayoko pong ma feel na I’m abandoning you guys it’s not that it's more of a personal reason,” she reasoned out.

Now that she has all her music under her name, Yeng said she plans to release new versions of them, adding that she wants to revisit some of the lyrics of her old songs. Her latest EP, Reimagined, already showcased re-recordings of her past songs.

“The good thing about owning my songs na ngayon, pwede kong irewrite yung lyrics kasi syempre nagrgrow din ako bilang songwriter. May mga songs dun na natatawa ako. I think I’m evolving as a songwriter as well,” she said
