Actress Sunshine Dizon thanked those who have never left her side as she celebrated her 40th birthday on Monday, July 3.

“So as they say, life begins at forty. Guess will be doing that starting now. Thank you for all the love and support. Promise that no matter how others may have painted a different picture of me, I will always strive to be a better human being in spite of and despite of,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“Thank you to those who has never left my side. To those who continued to believe. And to those who have judged me unfairly, believe me when I say I will be vindicated. … You can never put a good woman down,” she added.

In a separate post, Sunshine said that while she was happy to celebrate her birthday with her brothers, she could not help but miss her father, Isagani Dizon Jr., who passed away at the age of 70 last March 20. In a message for her dad, the actress expressed her gratitude for the life that he had given her.

“Happy to be spending my 40th with my brothers tonight Papa but the pain lingers on that I will never hear your voice and get a message from you. I miss you every minute, every second and everyday. You will always be my first love and I will always be your Papa’s girl forever,” she wrote.

“Thank you for the life you’ve given me, it may have not been perfect but I always knew I was loved by you. Hope to see you in my dreams Papa. I love you always and forever,” she added.

Sunshine made headlines last year after she revealed that she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, and depression. She admitted her condition after she was rushed to the hospital for an unknown cause.

In her post, which has since been deleted, the actress said that she wanted to share her personal struggles so she could help break down the stigma surrounding mental health.

“You may ask why now? Only because I want to free myself from the stigma. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help. I know it’s very hard to get stuck in your head. But we can do it, baby steps. One day at a time,” she said.

Sunshine, 40, appeared in the ABS-CBN series Marry You, Marry Me as Paula.
