Kris Aquino has opened up about her recent breakup with Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Monday (July 17), the actress and TV host got candid about the reason behind her decision to end her relationship with Mark, saying she wasn’t lying when she said that a long-distance relationship would not work for her.

“I gave you a cleansed version of why I ended my relationship with Marc. I didn’t lie when I said a long distance relationship is difficult. BUT I saw he has many dreams left to fulfill and many obligations to the people who gave him their vote. Sadly, I’m in the battle of my life precisely because I’m doing all I can to save my life because my 2 sons still need me,” she said.

Kris — who is currently in the US to seek treatment for her autoimmune conditions — said that even if they had tried to work things out, she and Mark would likely still not end up together.

“I’m realistic enough that Marc has a life beyond trying to help take care of me,” she wrote.

“I apologize for seeming selfish but why will I add stress in my life when I see his posts enjoying himself when I am suffering 8,000 miles away? If we had tried to stay together as a couple, the ending would still be the same.

In the end, Kris said she and Mark were simply just not meant for each other.

“I’m keeping my word that he will never read nor hear me saying anything negative about him because what for?” she said.

“We’re not enemies, we just weren’t meant for each other,” she added.

It was just last week when Kris, 52, first revealed her relationship and breakup with Mark.

At the time, the former actress thanked Mark being not just as her boyfriend but her “best friend and confidante.” She added that despite their breakup, he will always have a special place in her heart.

“We may not have had our ‘happily ever after’ but being sick has really taught me to look at the glass half full - thank you for giving me the chance to again experience the magic of Once Upon a Time,” she said.
